BSustained to support healthy living training at SIFA Fireside

Jun 23rd, 2008

Sifa Fireside (www.sifafireside.org.uk) has recently linked up with BSustained in order to deliver healthy living training to their service users.

Birgit will be using her expertise in gardening, cooking and training to support service users in being able to live healthily on their low budget. As Sifa Fireside recently re-occupied a communal allotment, part of the training will be on how to grow edibles in an easy way and how to turn the produce into tasty meals. As part of these 5-a-Day on a Budget workshops, Birgit, together with attendants, will be developing a shopping list for a weekly shop aimed at enabling everybody to achieve the 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day, focusing on seasonal produce in order to reduce cost. The workshop groups will then also actually buy the items on their shopping lists, utilising particularly Birmingham city’s great markets as one very valuable source of affordable fruit and vegetables.

Birgit starts working on the allotment with service users on Thursday 26th June 2008 and will be reporting back on more details on the progress of the project regularly. Watch this space!
