Stall at Open Day at Billesley Lane Allotments as part of Moselely in Bloom
Yesterday, 14th June 2008, I had a promotional stall at the Open Day at the Billesely Lance Allotments which was part of the ‘Moseley in Bloom’ (check out http://moseleyinbloom.org.uk/index.php for more details) Open Gardens weekend. I had arranged to have stalls together with Hazel Neal from BrumLETS (the Birmingham LETS – Local Economic Trading System of whom I have been a long time member) and my friend and fellow allotmenter Keith Gent, a silver jeweller.
BrumLETS was promoting a new scheme that was recently set up, together with ideas related to BSustained’s programme and ethos – a Fork to Fork food project where members can offer parts of their gardens or alltoments to other members who wish to grow vegetables and fruit. I will follow this project while it is developing …. more soon ….
Coming back to the stall at the Open Day, I was promoting BSustained’s event catering and healthy living and eating workshops by attracting pundits with free samples of freshly prepared food – vegetable wraps – and the sustainabliity training offered via displaying some of the clocks I have produced through re-using packaging or dis-used items.
I really enjoyed the whole experience at the Billesely Lane Allotments. Everything was really enjoyable: the whole set up for us stall holders felt really welcoming, all the members of the site were very warm and helpful, lots of people came to have a good look round (and to try the food that was smell-able from the entrance), the tasty cakes members sold alongside tea and coffee were lovely, and the sun shone for most of the afternoon against the prediction of the weather forecast ….
It seemed that quite a few people were really interested in both workshops as well as event catering and hopefully, there will be some follow up work. So, overall, it was a really enjoyable and seemingly successful day … the only draw back was that being busy with enquiries all the time left me little time to have really good nose round the allotments myself …. something to be followed up
